The Story Of Chris Paul’s Point God Career
The Story Of Chris Paul’s Point God Career. Chris Paul was once known as the greatest point guard of his generation before the arrival of many talented guards like Stephen Curry, and Kyrie Irving. He has a career average of 18.5 PTS, 4.5 REB, and 9.5 AST per game.
CP3 was selected 4th overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2005 NBA Draft and was later named the rookie of the year, falling just 1 vote away from being the unanimous winner of the said award.
In the 2007-08 season, he was named an All-Star for the first time in his career playing in front of his home fans in New Orleans. He averaged 21.6 PTS along with a league-leading 11.6 AST and 2.6 STL per game. He ended the season being second on the Most Valuable Player Award and was named to his first All-NBA and All-Defensive Teams Award.
In the summer of 2008, he signed a 5-year/$68 million contract extension with the Hornets. Unfortunately, he was plagued by injuries that led to the missing/early exit of his team from the playoffs.
Until December of 2011, the “Point God” was being dealt with by the Los Angeles Lakers in a three-team deal but the NBA, who owned the Hornets at that time, undo the trade because they claimed that it was much better to keep him. This trade incident is one of the greatest “what if” in the history of the NBA. It might be the greatest year for the Los Angeles Lakers since their championship in 2010 as he will be paired with Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, and Kobe Bryant.
The very next day, the Hornets agreed to a deal sending CP3 to the Los Angeles Clippers. Two days later, the deal was totally completed as the Hornets also sent an additional 2 second-round picks to the Clippers. His time with the team was great as the team reached the postseason for 6 straight years. The team rose to stardom and they were called “Lob City” because of the amazing lob passes between Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan.
Prior to the start of 2013-14, Paul signed a 5-year/$107 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite having two stars on the roster, the team still exited early in the playoffs. Chris Paul never reached the Conference Finals until the 2017-2018 season.
On June 28, 2017, Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Montrezl Harrell, Darrun Hilliard, DeAndre Liggins, and Lou Williams, Kyle Wiltjer, a future first-round pick, and cash considerations. The team reached the WCF later that season before they got defeated by the eventual champion Golden State Warriors despite leading 3-2 in the series.
Paul signed a massive 4-year/$160 million contract extension with the Houston Rockets in the 2018 offseason. In the 2018-19 season, he missed 17 consecutive games but still, they clinched a playoff berth, thanks to James Harden’s historic run. Later on, they were again eliminated by the defending champions Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.
In July 2019, Paul was dealt with the Oklahoma City Thunder along with valuable assets and draft picks in exchange for former MVP Russell Westbrook.
At the beginning of the 2019-20 season, Oklahoma City Thunder was doubted that they can’t contend this season due to the departure of their 2 stars but Chris Paul proves them wrong as he led the team to the 5th spot in the Western Conference Standings. With him being the leader of the OKC team, he was named as an All-Star reserve for team Lebron at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago. Since his departure from LAC, he has found now a team where he’ll be taken care of.
Prior to the suspension of the NBA, Chris Paul and the Thunder are on pace to make the playoffs this season. For sure, this will be a good postseason run for them. Wish you all the best, Chris Paul.
