Klay Thompson Wants to be a Warrior for the Rest of His Career
Warriors star Klay Thompson is one of the best shooters to ever play in the NBA. Along with Stephen Curry, the two were known to be the greatest backcourt duo of all time. They were called “Splash Brothers” because of their ability to “splash” the net with the ball.
Mychal Thompson, his father, says that Klay wants to retire with the Warriors after another 10 years. He also revealed that Klay loves everything about Steph, both as a player and man.
“Klay loves playing with Steph, he respects him so much,” Mychal Thompson said on Dell and Sonya Curry’s podcast Raising Fame. “He talks about him all the time and how hard he works, how dedicated he is to the game and to his family”.
“He has said to me in private that he loves playing with Steph and he wants to retire as a Warrior after another 10 years”.
Klay has stated he wants to go into the Hall of Fame along with Steph. That’s how close he feels to him and how honored he is to play with him. They have formed a special bond. That’s why I told him, I said, ‘Even though you’re going to probably miss this year, you and Steph will still have eight years together as long as you take care of your bodies”.
At 30 years old, Klay Thompson is now at the peak of his career. He has a career average of 19.5 PTS, 3.5 REB, and 2.3 AST in 45.9 percent field-goal shooting and 41.9 percent shooting from deep. He’s a 3x NBA champion. 5x All-Star, 2x All-NBA Team, and 1x All-Defensive Team.
Klay has yet to see the floor this season prior to the NBA hiatus after he suffered an injury in the NBA Finals last year that cost them a championship. For sure he can already play at the beginning of the next season. Expect them to be back at full strength to contend for another championship for the Golden State Warriors.
Thompson was a free agent in 2019 and didn’t take any meetings with other teams. Similarly, Curry immediately re-signed with the Warriors when his contract expired in 2017. The two have formed the basis of one of the greatest offenses in NBA history. Curry is widely considered to be the greatest shooter in NBA history, while Thompson has a strong argument for that No. 2 spot.
With three championships together and when Thompson eventually returns from the torn ACL, he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals, neither Thompson nor Curry has any immediate need to separate.
