The Luckiest Non-NBA Star Who Won Multiple Championships

Do you want to know who’s the luckiest player in NBA history who won multiple championships without playing like Michael Jordan or any other basketball superstars? Do you want to know what he did to win those championships?ย

The luckiest non-star NBA player who won multiple championships is Robert Horry who won 7 championships, the most of any player not to have played in the 1960s. He won titles with the Houston Rockets (2x), Los Angeles Lakers (3x), and with the San Antonio Spurs (2x).

HOUSTON ROCKETS

Robert Horry was drafted 11th overall by the Houston Rockets in the 1992 NBA Draft. Despite being listed as a small forward, he played his entire career as a power forward. He’s a big man who can stretch the floor. His three-point shooting is really his best ability as it helped him achieve what he has.

With Horry, the Houston Rockets won two consecutive championships in 1994 and 1995. His contribution to the team, especially in crunch time, can’t be compensated as he’s one of the biggest factors to their championship run.

According to Horry, the 1995 NBA title was the one he was the proudest of because the Rockets were the 6th seed in the Western Conference that time and still they took the ring.

PHOENIX SUNS

In 1996, Horry was traded to Phoenix Suns along with Sam Cassell, Chucky Brown, and Mark Bryant in exchange for Charles Barkley. According to some reports, he was traded because he’s wasn’t taking enough shots. This is the only time where he joined a non-contending team.

During his time with the team, he had an on-court altercation with Danny Ainge where he threw a towel at him. He was immediately suspended that led to trading him to the rising team at the time the Los Angeles Lakers.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS

During his time in Los Angeles, Horry mostly spent his time playing from the bench. But on the time of the Playoffs where he was badly needed, he began delivering quality minutes. He’s was also a big part of the offense when Shaq was not his normal self.

Horry added 3 championships under his belt in 2000-2002 where the Los Angeles Lakers won 3-peat.ย  They wouldn’t have won 3 championships without his substantial efforts. He’s literally the salvage guy when the team was in a bad situation. His amazing game-winning shot in Game 4 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals made Magic Johnson call him “one of the 10 best clutch players in league history”“.

In the 2003 postseason, Horry and the Lakers failed to reach the Finals and dropped the chance to win 4-peat. After this season, he became a free agent.

SAN ANTONIO SPURS

San Antonio Spurs signed Robert Horry to a 5-year contract in 2003. This is the most famed career of his as he got the chance to be a significant guy that the team could rely on. His heroic performance in Game 5 of the 2005 NBA Finals is the greatest turnaround for the Spurs’ title run that year. He was called “Big Shot Bob” by Tim Duncan because of that magnificent performance.

“Big Shot Bob” won his last championship in 2007 when the Spurs swept the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers. After that season he became a free agent, he went unsigned and was never seen again playing on the court.

Robert Horry is a great role player who made substantial contributions for any team he played with, that’s why he’s the luckiest NBA player in history.

I fell in love with the game of basketball at 15 years old. I am an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls as I am from the windy city! This blog was created as a side hobby during my sophomore year in college and I have stuck with it ever since.
