Has an NBA team ever gone 0-82 or 82-0?
Has an NBA team ever gone 0-82 or 82-0? The first time NBA teams had to play 82 games in one season was in the 1967-1968 season. That year, two expansion teams, the San Diego Rockets and the Seattle SuperSonics, joined the league. Therefore, the total number of games went up from 81 to 82 games per season. At that point, the NBA had 12 active teams, which meant that each team had to play against each team in their conference eight times, and against teams in other conferences seven times.
Since then, 18 more NBA teams have joined the league, but the amount of games per team has stayed the same. Now, each team plays about 3.5 games per week during the regular season which lasts about 165 days.
So Has an NBA team ever gone 0-82 or 82-0? No team has ever won or lost all 82 games in a single season.
The best record ever was 73 wins and 9 losses by the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry and the Warriors, led by head coach Steve Kerr, started the season with 24 consecutive wins and set the tone for the new record. That was the best record to begin a season in any American professional sports ever.
The Warriors also set the record for most road wins in a single season, with 34. They also became the first team in NBA history to play an entire season while suffering zero back-to-back losses, in addition to becoming the first team in NBA history to play an entire season without losing to the same team twice.
And when everything seemed perfect for the Warriors that season, they lost in the Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games despite the fact that they had a 3-1 lead.
The previous record for most wins in a regular season was held by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. Michael Jordan and his teammates managed to win 72 games with only 10 losses. Unlike the Warriors, the Bulls went on to win the NBA championship defeating the Seattle Supersonics in six games in the finals series.
The following season the Bulls went on to 69 wins and 13 losses which is the third-best record ever, the same as the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers. Both of these teams won the NBA championship in those seasons.

On the other hand, the worst record in an 82-game regular season had the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1972-73 season when they won only 9 games and lost the remaining 73. That team was called “perfectly awful” but still they somehow won three games in six days that season. Unfortunately for them, everything prior to and past that week was a total disaster.
A few decades later, the same team had another devastating season winning only 10 games in 2015-16. That was the second straight season that Joel Embiid missed due to injuries and postponed his NBA debut for another year.
The next in line was the Dallas Mavericks from the 1992-93 season and the Denver Nuggets from five years later. Both teams had an 11-71 record.
