LeBron and Bronny James top the list of the best NBA father-son duos

Many of the NBA’s best players were born and raised in the same area as the league.

LeBron’s expressed his wish for his son Bronny’s to join him in the NBA. Bronny James was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers as the number one pick in the 2024 NBA draft. The 55th pick in the NBA draft of 2024.

LeBron and Bronny sharing the court with the Phoenix Suns at the start of the second quarter was the other reality that occurred on Sunday.

History shows that talent is often passed down through the family. These are other father-son duos who have made it to the NBA.

Dell Curry, Stephen Curry, Seth Curry

Dell Curry, one of the most talented 3-point shooters in his time, played 16 years in the NBA and won the Sixth Man Award for 1993-94.

Dell has shot at least 40 percent from long range in nine seasons. This includes a league high 47.6% during the 1998-1999 season. He holds the Charlotte Hornets’ franchise records for most games played, and 2 point field goals.

Curry brought his sons, Stephen Curry, and Seth Curry to the shootouts throughout his nine years in the league. They followed in his footsteps and became elite 3-point shooters. Seth has only shot below 40% on the 3-point line once in the entire time he’s been in the NBA. Stephen’s shot from distance has been below 40% only twice in 14 NBA seasons.

Stephen also has four championships to his name, as well as 10 All-Stars appearances with the Golden State Warriors and two MVP Awards. In 2022 he became NBA’s leading 3-point field goal maker.

The competition was held during the NBA All-Star Weekend 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Seth failed to advance beyond the first round, while Stephen placed second.

Joe Bryant, Kobe Bryant

Joe Bryant spent eight years in the NBA. Joe Bryant was originally drafted by Warriors but the Philadelphia 76ers purchased him before the season began.

He played four seasons for the 76ers and appeared in the 1977 NBA Finals. He also spent three seasons with San Diego Clippers. Kobe played his last NBA season with Houston Rockets, before playing abroad in France and Italy where he spent the majority of his youth.

Kobe was selected by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996 at No. The Lakers traded him immediately after he was drafted No. He played 20 seasons for Los Angeles and won five championships, 18 All-Stars and 11 First-Team All-NBA awards.

Rick Barry, Brent Barry

Rick Barry, one of the few players who played in the NBA and ABA at the same time, was a 12-time All Star, six-time All NBA member, and a champion. Barry averaged 20 points per game for 12 of his 14 seasons. His career high was 35 points during the 1966-67 campaign.

Brent Barry, like his father, played 14 seasons and won two championships for the San Antonio Spurs. He played an average of 24 minutes per match during the Spurs’ 2005 title run, and 11.8 minutes in 2007.

Mychal Thompson, Klay Thompson

Mychal Thompson was the first player born outside of America to receive a No. 1 ranking. 1 overall. After eight seasons as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers, he was traded to the Spurs before being again acquired by the Lakers.

Mychal was Kareem Abd-Jabbar’s backup when he won back-toback championships in 1988 and 1989 with the Lakers. He retired in 1992.

His son, Klay Thomson has spent the entirety of his career with the Warriors. He won four championships, and earned five All-Stars. Klay Thompson is in the top 10 of 3-point field goal makers in NBA history, but his father only made one in his career.

The Thompsons is one of five father-son teams to win an NBA Championship.

Tim Hardaway, Tim Hardaway Jr .

Tim Hardaway, the king of killer crossovers, made five All-Stars appearances in his Hall of Fame-winning career. He also won All-NBA awards. He averaged 20 points or more per game for five out of thirteen seasons. He was also a member of the Warriors “Run TMC’ trio in the early 1990s.

Tim Hardaway Jr. has carried on his father’s legacy of scoring power, averaging double-digit points for 9 out of his 10 NBA seasons.

Bill Walton, Luke Walton

Bill Walton, a decorated college athlete, found success in the NBA.

He won two championships over 10 seasons, and his averages were 18 points and 15 rebounds per game. His 3.4 blocks per game during the Blazers title run of 1977 was also impressive. In 1985-86, the elder Walton played a major role as a reserve with the Boston Celtics during their championship season.

Luke Walton played for the Lakers in a reserve position and won two championships back to back.

Gary Payton, Gary Payton II

Gary Payton played for 17 years, during which he was an NBA All-Star nine times and an All-NBA player once. He also won the Defensive Players of the Year award. He played 24.3 minutes in each of the Miami Heat championship games from 2006, appearing in 23 games.

Gary Payton II may not have been an All-Star, but he inherited his dad’s defensive skills and has won a championship. Gary II suffered an injury in the second game of the Western Conference Semifinals, and missed the conference championships for the Warriors’ title run in 2022. He returned to the NBA Finals in Game 2, averaging 18.5 minutes per game.

Arvydas Sabonis, Domantas Sabonis

Arvydas showed his skill set as a large man in seven NBA seasons. He was a key member of the Trail Blazers in the early 2000s and the late 1990s.

Domantas, a three time All-Star as well as an All-NBA awardee, has inherited his passing skills. He averaged 19.4 rebounds, 13.7 points and 8.2 assists in the last season.
